Looking for a Realtor? Meet Newkirk Reality agent Tyler Hilton!
So, think about this: You may LOVE making videos of your cat. Or you may love downhill skiing. Or binge-watching Game of Thrones. But “following your passion” is probably not always the most astute career advice, is it?
Luckily, for Tyler Hilton, what really interests him does happen to be a good career choice! “I was drawn to a career in real-estate because I wasn’t happy with I was doing,” said Tyler. “I thought to myself, ‘What motivates me right now?’ I was watching a lot of shows on TV about historical renovations and old houses. I thought I would try to work where my natural interests were leading me. I became a Realtor.”
Tyler, a native of Lafayette, IN, graduated in 2008 from Indiana University, with a BS in Public Management. His previous job — the one he was not really happy doing! — was an intensive sales position for a home improvement company. “Sales taught me persistence. There are all sorts of opportunities to quit. It’s about striking a balance between pushing and pulling.”
He’s one of the newer Realtors at Newkirk Realty, starting with the company in August 2014. He sees himself as a conduit to help people get things done. When asked to compare his role helping buyers with sellers he said, “When you’re selling, it’s a bit easier. It can be tough looking for a house. You go down a checklist, the house has everything a buyer may want, but sometime it just doesn’t click. It doesn’t feel right. Helping people buy a house is more challenging, but more rewarding as well.”
As far has his own home, he lives in the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood of Indianapolis, a section where development began in the 1880s. His first transaction as a Realtor was his own home, and he’s been a positive track ever since. “I’ve been unhappy in so many jobs,” he said. “But I’m loving it here. I landed in an ideal spot. Rob (Newkirk) offers a great place to learn.”
NOTE Each of the upcoming posts in our Agent Spotlight Series will ask the same question to wrap things up. So here goes!
