The summer festival season is coming up, starting with the Broad Ripple Art Fair. The fair is a gathering of more than 22,000 visitors, 225 artists, various food vendors and live entertainment on four stages on the grounds of the Indianapolis Art Center. All proceeds benefit Art Center programs. The Art Fair is the largest exhibition and fundraiser organized by the Indianapolis Art Center. It will take place on May 19th and 20th.
This year visitors will have more opportunities to have an in-depth experience at the fair. In the past fairgoers have had the opportunity to make a ceramic vase for $5. This year they will also be able to experiment with sculpture and printmaking in studio classrooms. Participation will be on a first-come first-served basis. Times and prices for the various classes may vary.
Another new feature this year is the Emerging Artists Area, where local artists new to the art scene can experience being part of an art fair for the first time. This area offers a different variety of art pieces and prices than the booths. The artists occupying the booths are chosen by a panel of jurors, who select 225 artists from among more than 800 who apply every year.
Children will have the opportunity to create art at the Kids’ Camp. Parents interested in registering their children for these classes may do so while purchasing tickets online. Kids’ Camp will only be on Saturday, and space is limited to 12 children per class. However, there will be many art-making activities for kids in the outdoor area of the fair.
Tickets are available at the Art Center, at select Fifth Third Bank locations and online at http://indplsartcenter.org/events/braf/.
